This is why we enable encryption on all our drives. There are even ways to reset Microsoft account passwords by using this method. I have used this trick before when users have forgotten their passwords. I actually just tried this on my machine to confirm and it still works. Although I also just enable the built-in administrator with net user and then boot and login. You can still use the rename cmd to utilman. If they user has a Microsoft account, they just need to change the password at: I usually boot to install media, mount the registry from the drive, and manually turn on the built-in admin account, then start the computer normally and change the password from there (remember to disable the built-in admin account when you're done): Then add user and add user to local admin group Replace the file utilman.exe with cmd.exe.
